4 Words Of Advice From My Honeymoon

IMG_8250As we drove through the hills of North Carolina we saw a scenic overlook coming up on our right – a place to pull off and enjoy the mountain view for a moment.

Despite having a plan for the day, we could not pass up pulling over to take a peek.

The pictures don’t quite do the view justice. You can’t help but pause quietly as you take it all in. There are no words to accurately describe the beauty of what you are seeing.

As we continued our drive down the mountain road we came upon 3 more scenic overlooks. We stopped at each one of them.

We laughed as we noticed another older couple who pulled up a few minutes behind us at each view. This couple already knew a lesson my wife and I were just learning:

Monday Morning Music: Tennessee

It’s hard to think about rest on a Monday.

Let me rephrase that:

It’s hard put rest into practice on a Monday.

Resting sounds good in theory. When God commands us to take a sabbath, we love the idea of it.

But the work comes calling.

I am terribly guilty of not putting sabbath principles into practice.

Instead of taking a full day to rest, I spend the weekend working and worrying about all manner of little things that need to get done. I think if I rest I won’t have the time to get everything done.

You may do the same thing.

Even worse, you may not have even had a day off this weekend. You may have worked double shifts. Or you may have been up all night taking care of a couple of screaming babies.

If you missed your chance at rest this weekend, maybe you could use some Monday Morning Music.

Peyton Manning’s Advice On Faith

0827101521aLet me tell you about the time I had dinner with Peyton Manning.

My parents, graduates of The University of Tennessee, raised me as a big Volunteer fan. Growing up we would travel back to Knoxville about once a year for a home football game, especially in the years when Peyton Manning quarterbacked the team.

After the game we would sometimes go out to eat to one of our favorite restaurants: the legendary Ye Olde Steak House.

It was at Ye Olde Steak House, after a great Tennessee game, that my family noticed Peyton enjoying a post-game meal with his father Archie. Continue reading

20 Things I Learned At The Storyline Conference

IMG_1720

“What will the world miss if you do not tell your story?”

This weekend 1,000 storytellers gathered in Nashville for the Storyline Conference to ask this profound question together. Hosted by Donald Miller and inspired by the logotherapy process of Victor Frankl, the Storyline Conference was a fire hydrant bursting forth knowledge and inspiration for dreamers wanting to live a more meaningful story.

Going into the conference I was confused and frustrated as to where my life was headed. After hearing from so many incredible speakers and beginning to go through the process of editing my life, I am finally finding clarity as to my purpose in this world.

I’d pay everything I have to send you to the Storyline Conference. Do yourself a favor and sign up for the next one. If you can’t make it to San Diego or Nashville next year, here’s a sampling of what I learned about sharing your story with the world: Continue reading
