Stop Waiting For God To Call Your Name

IMG_5248It must be one of the greatest feelings in the world to hear your name called to compete on “The Price Is Right”.

I can only imagine the elation running through a contestant’s body when the announcer tells them to “Come on down!” After waiting and waiting they get to be one of the lucky handful of people who actually get to play the game.

Just look at the celebration which took place just the other day as one contestant crowd surfed his way to the stage:

Of course, most of us will never get the chance to be on a game show. We’ll never get the chance to celebrate when an announcer calls our name.

In fact a lot of us spend our days the same way in the audience of life, waiting around for God to call our name. We watch us our fellow contestants have all the fun and hope our turn will come. If only God would call us.

Here’s the thing though: the simple fact that you’re alive means that He’s already called your name. He’s yelling it at the top of his lungs, calling you from out of the crowd and onto the playing field.

If you’re alive, then you’re in the game. You’ve still got a chance to win.

So stand up. Cheer. Get excited. Go crazy. Make your way out of the audience and onto the stage.

The cameras are on. The show’s already started.

Come on down. It’s time to play.

The Hollow Treasures Of Storage Wars

Why is “Storage Wars” one of the most popular shows on television? A&E’s megahit has turned the relatively obscure practice of bidding on expired storage units into the most popular game show on television.

Each episode builds up the anticipation of not only finding out the contents of each unit, but then learning just how much each unit is worth (though my biggest problem with the show is the values are often dubious in their interpretation).

Secretly everyone watching considers becoming a storage unit bidder. You think to yourself, “Is it really that easy? Spend a hundred bucks on a storage unit and turn a couple thousand dollars profit?

I thought about “Storage Wars” quite a bit as I prepared for our church’s yard sale this past weekend. At one point I even met a church member at her storage unit to pick up some items.

She had not been to the unit in years. When she unlocked the door the mountainous contents were overwhelming. Continue reading

The Chopped Recipe For Success

CHOPPED_Ep4I’m not a foodie, but I love the Food Network show “Chopped”. Like as in the stay up until two in the morning marathon watching random episodes on a Tuesday night kind of love.

What I love about “Chopped” isn’t so much the actual cooking. Don’t get me wrong – it’s really fun to see top chefs try to brainstorm an appetizer using goat cheese and fruit roll ups in just 20 minutes. But if I just wanted to see people cook random and ridiculous items, I’d watch Epic Meal Time on Youtube.

What I love about “Chopped” is the honesty of the judges. I really think the judges are the most honest in all of reality television. Continue reading
