Weekends are a wonderful time for dreamers.
For two days you get to live the life you fantasize about. Free from the deadlines and restrictions of the office you have 48 hours to work on your passion project. Whether it’s writing your book or setting up your self-run business or making crafts to sell on Etsy, the weekend is where dreamers have a chance to see life as they imagine it could be.

Seasonal. I was just supposed to be a seasonal employee.
In November of 2013, a few months after leaving my full-time position as a youth pastor, I began working at Kohls part time to help me earn some extra spending money for Christmas.
I thought I would work here for a few weeks.
Today, over seven months later, I’m clocking in at Kohls for the very last time.
Life has not panned out as I planned it in 2014. I didn’t find a full time job as soon as I thought I would.
But now, as I prepare for a new working opportunity, I’ve been wondering how to sum up my experience with Kohls.
Diving back into the world of retail after a 7 year absence has been one of the most challenging experiences of my life.
I’ve complained. I’ve cried. I’ve whined. I’ve moaned and groaned to my closest friends. I’ve screamed at God, wondering why He would let me flounder in a dead-end job without any hopeful prospects on the horizon.
I’ve struggled to figure out exactly what I’ve learned from this detour in life.
Maybe it is still too soon to tell what all my time at Kohls has taught. But I have come up with a few things that have surprised me along the way about myself as an employee, about consumer behavior, and about the retail world. Continue reading
It’s hard to think about rest on a Monday.
Let me rephrase that:
It’s hard put rest into practice on a Monday.
Resting sounds good in theory. When God commands us to take a sabbath, we love the idea of it.
But the work comes calling.
I am terribly guilty of not putting sabbath principles into practice.
Instead of taking a full day to rest, I spend the weekend working and worrying about all manner of little things that need to get done. I think if I rest I won’t have the time to get everything done.
You may do the same thing.
Even worse, you may not have even had a day off this weekend. You may have worked double shifts. Or you may have been up all night taking care of a couple of screaming babies.
If you missed your chance at rest this weekend, maybe you could use some Monday Morning Music.

It’s hard to feel beautiful on a Monday.
You wake up late, still hungover from a weekend of fun, forced to go back into the work and grind. You don’t have time to pick out a great outfit or fix your hair the way you like it. You still feel guilty over the mistakes you’ve made – the same ones you made last weekend.
You may not see something beautiful staring back at you in the mirror. You may not see a beautiful day ahead outside your window. You may not be able to see through the fog of shame you carry with you.
Maybe you could use a little Monday Morning Music.
