Mondays can be a like punch in the face.

You spend all weekend having fun, sleeping in, enjoying your family.

Then the alarm hits. 4:30 AM. You struggle to get yourself up. Barely make it through your bagel and coffee before you walk in the door.

You open the door to the office and BOOM. Monday comes at you swinging and knocks you to the floor.

When Monday knocks you down you don’t always want to get back up. Sometimes it feels like you can’t get back up.

You need an anthem. You need to know you can Rise Again. You need some Monday Morning Music.

NEEDTOBREATHE’s latest album Rivers In The Wasteland is full of inspiring, anthemic music. To me no song on the album is more uplifting than “Rise Again”.

As the lyrics go:

“Heaviness is only temporary,

The daylight will soon break in.

The sunlight can change a heart in the wake of a bitter end.”

At the most, Monday will last 24 hours. That’s the maximum amount of damage one day can inflict. The heaviness is only temporary, no matter how much force comes behind the punch of this day.

The light of God is shining through the window of your workplace – even if your office is boxed off from the outside world.

For one day soon we will be risen on a permanent basis. There is no knockout blow that can take away our eternal victory.

One day soon we’ll have never have to start all over again. One day soon we will live without fear. One day soon we will not have to face the consequences of this broken world and our mistakes in it. One day soon we will be whole again.

Death has lost it’s sting. And just like NEEDTOBREATHE, sometimes I still can’t believe the awesomeness of this promise:

For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives. (Romans 6:4)

It’s hard to imagine this new life. It’s hard to comprehend the hope that awaits us. But we must hold strong to it. We must reach out to the hand that pulls us up off the floor when Monday knocks us on down.

And as we hold strong to this Hand, we can take our free hand and wave goodbye to the world, to our old way of living. We can sing “Farewell” to the fears and doubts which danced so victoriously over our fallen bodies.

Take a deep breath this Monday. Soak in the light which is leading you to a new path. Shine the light to those around you. Stand up and Rise Again.
