Don’t Be A Diva

(It’s WrestleWeek on POP GOD! In celebration of Wrestlemania XXX this Sunday we’ll be looking at the intersection of faith and wrestling. You don’t have to be a fan to hop in the ring on this journey. Read on and see how this fake sport provides rich lessons for anyone who’s grappling with God.)

New-Total-Divas-LogoWrestling has pretty much always been a guy thing in my life.

So when my fiancé started getting into “Total Divas”, I was kind of excited.

“Total Divas” is a reality show on E! which focuses on the women of the WWE, their romantic relationships with other wrestlers, and all sorts of other backstage drama.

At first I thought it was just a great way for my fiancé to get excited about wrestling so she wouldn’t give me crap for watching it. Maybe she’d even want to watch wrestling with me sometime!

Then, of course, I got sucked into watching “Total Divas”.

You might think as an obsessive wrestling fan that I would love watching anything associated with WWE. And “Total Divas” does entertain me sometimes.

But mainly “Total Divas” just makes me mad because of how fake it is.

Now hear me out. I know that wrestling is fake. In fact, that’s part of why I love it so much.

“Total Divas” is something totally different.

Pro wrestling knows that it’s fake. It embraces itself as sports entertainment.

“Total Divas” pretends to be reality. It’s the type of reality show where everything is scripted and staged to a ridiculous degree.

This is a pet peeve of mine. Every reality show is edited and produced. None of them are completely real. I get that.

It just annoys me to no end when these type of shows won’t admit what they really are. They pretend to be a reality show when they’re really just a sitcom with untrained actors.

I wish “Total Divas” would embrace what it really is.

Not being able to decide on your true identity is a dangerous way to live.

The Bible warns us of this type of life. In Revelation 3:15-16 God says the Church in Laodicea:

I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!

God has no place for the lukewarm. You cannot be wishy-washy with your faith.

You cannot “kinda sorta” follow God. Your faith is either real, or it is not.

The choice is yours. As The Bible also tells us, we can decide this day who we will serve.

You have the freedom to give your life to the Lord or keep it to yourself. You can really follow God, or you can just pretend when the camera is on.

If you’re caught in the in-between, struggling to follow God with all your heart, wrestle with Him. He can withstand your doubts and fears if you bring them to Him. He will offer you comfort and peace in return if you truly seek Him.

Just don’t settle for being lukewarm with your faith. Don’t be a diva.

What is the reality of your walk with God?
